High Power Rifle “Across the Course Format”

Across the course shooting has its origin in military training. Slow and rapid fire stages are fired from various positions and distances. Typically slow fire standing (referred to as off-hand) and rapid fire sitting stages of a match are fired at 200 yards. Moving back to 300 yards a rapid fire stage is fired in the prone position. The final slow fire stage is fired in the prone position from 600 yards.

“A Tale of Two Cities”

Two organizations sanction Across the Course matches. The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) and the NRA (National Rifle Association) operate with similar rules. The NRA rules tend to be rather forgiving as to Rifle and equipment used in match, the CMP requirements are more finite as to create fairness in available variations of allowable equipment. The CMP has its focus on “Service Rifle” competition. The rifles must conform to strict guidelines with current and previously recognized US military firearms as the model. The NRA allows a wide range of rifles including service rifles to be used in competition. There are also differences in the conduct of the match. However, the one item there is no separation between the organizations is SAFETY.

“Service Rifle Clinic” June 3, 2023

Each year we host a “Service Rifle Clinic” to instruct participants in methods applied to Rifle shooting. Specifics of the shooting positions, the conduct of the match, and range procedures are demonstrated from the firing line. At the other end of the range where the targets are, procedures for scoring and operation of the “Pit” are demonstrated. Each participant will then fire a mock match and operate the targets. This year’s clinic will be held on June 4th on the 200 yard firing line.

New Hampshire High Power League “NHHP”

The NHHPL which is the New Hampshire High Power league is a collection of groups of shooters representing various clubs in the New England area. The league is run by volunteers to bring some fun to the arena of shooting. The course of fire is modified from a standard match. Six league matches are going to be fired this year. Additional Matches

Two eighty round NRA approved matches are planned (6/18, 7/23). Two CMP format “Sniper” matches are on the schedule (6/25, 9/24). Several NRA approved 600 yard slow fire prone matches, 200 yard Offhand matches, Halloween fun Zombie match, “Mini-Palma International match with Canada, F/TR & F-Open match are all planned. We are looking to increase participation so if you are thinking about “getting off the bench” check us out.
